The speciality chemicals industry is experiencing a growing demand for eco-friendly and natural products. This focus extends to detergents, home care and industrial & institutional applications, with formulators and technicians increasingly prioritising sustainability when developing new products.
Today, to gain an insight into Italmatch Chemical Advanced Water Solutions‘ approach to sustainability issues for the HI&I market and to explore the key features of recently developed company’s biodegradable antiscalant solutions, derived entirely from renewable sources, we spoke with Gianni Pilati (Italmatch Chemicals Advanced Water Solutions Global Business Development & Marketing VP).
How is Italmatch Advanced Water Solutions working towards sustainability in the home care and industrial cleaning markets?
“Implementing sustainability in fabric & home care and industrial & institutional cleaning requires addressing various challenges. Italmatch is actively working on product reformulation by creating eco-friendly solutions with a reduced carbon footprint, the use of renewable raw materials and avoiding harmful chemicals. Aside from this, the company is also focusing on other fronts: energy efficiency, water conservation, supply chain sustainability, certifications and quality standards.”
What are the latest solutions developed by the Italmatch Team for HI&I applications?
“Italmatch is proud to offer two innovative antiscalants: Dequest PB11625D and SPE 1436. Both are based on CMI (Carboxymethyl Inuline), which is completely from renewable sources and biodegradable. Recently, Italmatch has also developed two additional grades with increased purity and concentration, enhancing the versatility of CMI for other applications in the home care and industrial & institutional and boosting its performance. The two grades are close to be launched and will open up new opportunities also in other market segments, like traditional industrial water and reverse osmosis applications.”
In terms of performance, how these products differentiate from other traditional solutions?
“CMI shows excellent performance compared to traditional polyacrylic acid. However, the key distinguishing feature lies in its high biodegradability as a derivative of Inulin, along with its non-toxic nature, making it safer for handling and disposal.”
